Protecting What's Best In Bellingham

Waterfront Redevelopment

We want an environmentally safe and friendly project with public access to the water, that also provides us with living wage jobs and some comfortable housing, while preserving Bellingham's unique flavor and that doesn’t deplete the Cities ongoing funding commitments.

The long-term project for the waterfront redevelopment requires cooperation between the City and the Port to clean up the site, develop a plan that reflects the needs and wants of citizens and builds the infrastructure. Phase I showed us the potential of the site. Phase II has started though it is in need of a master planning process with public participation in its creation. Click here for position paper. Downtown

Redevelopment and enhancement downtown is on the upswing and is still in need of government support. We need a transportation Master Plan that addresses a wide range of transportation issues including accessibility for all modes of transportation, a parking system with a managing structure that looks to the future with a recognition of the short comings of the past.

An essential component to connectivity between the Waterfront redevelopment and downtown could include creative accessibility for moving people in both directions. Current talk about building five bridges for cars doesn't take the place of a well thought out, Master planning process with citizen input.

The civic center area needs improved overall planning with leadership from City, County, the PUD, and business interests, to address specific needs like parking and transportation circulation. This plan is urgent; to clear the way for the library to seek voter approval for a bond to replace their current facilities.
